On February 7, Baku hosted the conference “Patient Safety: Global Action Plan and National Priorities”, organized by the Center for Public Health and Reforms of the Ministry of Health. The conference was attended by representatives of a number of health institutions and WHO. The event began with the commemoration of those who died as a result of the terrible earthquake that occurred in Turkey.
Opening the conference with an introductory speech, ISIM Director Kahraman Hagverdiyev said that every year millions of patients around the world are harmed due to non-compliance with safety rules in the provision of medical care, and that is why WHO calls on all countries and partners around the world to take urgent action in this area:”Patient safety and the provision of quality medical care to them is the most important condition for improving the efficiency of the healthcare system.”
It should be noted that World Patient Safety Day was established at the 72nd World Health Assembly (WHA) in May 2019. In addition, in consultation with all relevant partners, including Member States and the private sector, a “Global Action Plan for Patient Safety” spanning 2021-2030 with 7 key strategic goals, as well as a DSA plan to 2021 was drawn up. was adopted at the 74th meeting.
Speaking at the conference, Farid Hasanov, Head of the pharmacovigilance department of Analytical Expertise Center of the Ministry of Health, said that in order to ensure the safety of patients in our country, registered medicines are checked by the center before import. Farid Gasanov also noted that side effects and the benefit-risk ratio are systematically monitored in order to ensure the safe use of medicines. To do this, the necessary information is collected, recorded, evaluated and archived. The necessary measures are then taken to minimize the harm that the medicines can cause.
At the end of the event, the questions of the participants were answered, a wide exchange of views took place, the significance of the events organized in ISIM in this direction and the importance of their continuation in the future were emphasized.
