In December 2023, in Istanbul, WHO organized a seminar-conference on the topic “Antimicrobial Medicine Consumption” (AMC). The conference was attended by representatives from 30 countries, as well as 32 representatives from the CIS and Balkan countries, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Azerbaijan was represented at the meeting by Fariz Mahmudlu, an employee of the Center for Analytical Expertise of the Ministry of Health.
On the first day of the training, presentations were made on the national antibiotic programs of the participating countries and the current state of antibiotic use. At the end of the day, the training participants were divided into 5 groups, each group was tasked with preparing proposals on the effective use of antibiotics for discussion the next day.
On the second day, discussions were held on the topics Effective use of antimicrobial medicines, as well as community dissemination and monitoring methods for the use of antibiotics in the current global environment. Each participating country was allocated 5 minutes for presentation and at the end of each presentation discussions were held on this topic.
The conference was led by Kotoji Iwamoto, Technical Director of the Medicines and Medical Devices Supply Department of the WHO European Region, and experts Jane Robertson and Arno Müller.
