Humanity’s need for new medicines is steadily growing, as is the number of new synthetic substances that serve as the basis for medicines. At the same time, there are many plants that have a wide range of pharmacological properties and are promising as sources of active substances. Scientists from the Siberian Botanical Garden of Tomsk State University, in the course of a long-term collaboration with the Siberian State Medical University and the E.D. Goldberg Research Institute of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine, have identified 120 new plant sources that are valuable in composition and content of biologically active substances. Data on this are presented in the joint monograph “Plants of the genera Silene L. and Lychnis L. (Caryophyllaceae): composition of chemical components and biological activity”.
