On November 13-14, 2025, an event was held in Baku with the support of the Asian Development Bank, featuring representatives of pharmaceutical industry regulatory bodies from the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation member countries.
Representatives of national regulatory bodies from the Republics of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan presented at the event. The event was co-chaired by Rafig Khudaev, Deputy Director General of the Center for Analytical Expertise of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The coordinators were Chingiz Shukurov, Head of the Laboratory for Expertise and Quality Control of Medicines and Pharmaceuticals; Kamran Guliyev, Head of the Department of Import and Export of Medicines; Azer Hasanov, Head of the Department of Registration and Expertise of Medicines; Said Farzullayev, Head of the Department of Control and Supervision of Medicines; Aygun Jafarova, Expert of the Department of Expertise of Biologically Active Food Supplements; and Vusala Mamedova, Expert of the Department of Registration, Expertise, and Import of Medicines.
The event aims to strengthen cooperation between national regulatory authorities of Central Asian countries in the pharmaceutical sector and reduce the burden on regulatory authorities by introducing mutual recognition in drug registration procedures and laboratory analysis.
Participants held discussions to identify common interests and heard presentations on the use of artificial intelligence by national regulatory authorities in the pharmaceutical sector. Participants were presented with the legislation and procedures in force in the Republic of Azerbaijan regarding international recognition and regulation in the pharmaceutical sector. Discussions were held with representatives of the Asian Development Bank, and proposals from international organizations regarding the prequalification of the Center for Analytical Expertise, the national regulatory authority in the country’s pharmaceutical sector, were also heard.
