The laboratory, functioning as a structural unit of the Public Legal Entity “Analytical Expertise Center” under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan (hereinafter referred to as the Center), carries out the examination and testing of medical and pharmaceutical products that are manufactured domestically, imported, used in the medical field, and placed on the domestic market for sale.
The laboratory has also been accredited in accordance with the new AZS ISO/IEC 17025:2020 standard — “General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.”
In 2017, the laboratory was selected as the winner of a tender conducted among ISO 17025-accredited laboratories by the Project HOPE organization of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Pharmaceutical Monitoring Service. Based on the concluded contract, the laboratory carried out the analysis of medicines included in the Program Project for the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.
Since 2014, the laboratory of the Center has been participating in the Proficiency Testing Scheme (PTS) organized by the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare (EDQM).
In 2021, the Laboratory of the Center participated in proficiency tests on the following topics: “Volumetric Titration, Visual and Potentiometric End Point – Potentiometric Titration,” “Gas Chromatography (Ph. Eur. 2.2.28, FID) – Determination by Flame Ionization Detector,” “Relative Density (Ph. Eur. 2.2.5) – Determination of Density in Liquids,” “Liquid Chromatography, Assay (Ph. Eur. 2.2.29) – Quantitative Determination,” and “Dissolution Test (Ph. Eur. 2.9.3) – Determination of Dissolution Amount.”
In 2022, the Laboratory of the Center took part in the proficiency tests on the following topics: “PTS225 Optical Rotation (Ph. Eur. 2.2.7)”, “PTS226 Liquid Chromatography (Ph. Eur. 2.2.29)” and “PTS228 Refractive Index (Ph. Eur. 2.2.6)”.
In 2023, the Laboratory of the Center took part in the proficiency tests on the following topics: “PTS237 Dissolution (Ph. Eur. 2.9.3)”, “PTS239 Thin Layer Chromatography (Ph. Eur. 2.2.27)” and “PTS235 Semi-Micro Determination of Water (Ph. Eur. 2.5.12)”.
In 2024, the Laboratory of the Center took part in the proficiency tests on the following topics: “PTS245 UV-Visible Spectrophotometry (Ph. Eur. 2.2.25)”, “PTS247 Loss on Drying (Ph. Eur. 2.5.32), “PTS246 Conductivity (Ph. Eur. 2.2.38)”, “PTS248 Liquid Chromatography (Ph. Eur. 2.2.29, RP C-8, UV Detection) and PTS249 Dissolution and Mass Uniformity (Ph. Eur. 2.9.3, Basket Apparatus, UV Detection, and Ph. Eur. 2.9.5).
In 2025, the Laboratory of the Center took part in the proficiency tests on the following topics: PTS255 Potentiometric Determination of pH (Ph. Eur. 2.2.3)”, “PTS256 Liquid Chromatography (Ph. Eur. 2.2.29)”, “PTS257 Dissolution (Ph. Eur. 2.9.3)” and “PTS258 Gas Chromatography (Ph. Eur. 2.2.28, FID) – Determination by Flame Ionization Detector)”.
The laboratory carries out the determination of impurities in pharmaceutical products. It also analyzes ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol in medicines intended for oral use, such as syrups and solutions.
The laboratory carefully follows requests received from the WHO, carrying out analyses of test samples in accordance with the organization’s recommendations, and reports the results to the appropriate authorities.
The laboratory of the Center provides practical training for fourth-year students of Azerbaijan Medical University and carries out research to support the scientific projects of master’s and doctoral students on various topics.
The modernization of the laboratory has been initiated, and the project has been prepared in consultation with the relevant experts.
