The international awareness campaign on medicines safety — MedSafetyWeek, organized annually by the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Uppsala Monitoring Centre, will take place this year from November 3-9.
This year, MedSafetyWeek marks its 10th anniversary and will be the most extensive campaign held to date. More than 130 organizations from 117 countries are participating in this initiative, and information is being disseminated in more than 60 languages.
The Analytical Expertise Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as every year, is actively participating in and supporting the MedSafetyWeek campaign.
This year’s campaign is focused on drawing the attention of the public and healthcare professionals to the importance of timely reporting of information about adverse drug reactions that occur during the use of medicinal products. Within the framework of MedSafetyWeek, informational advocacy activities are being carried out on the social media platforms of medicines regulatory authorities in various countries around the world. This once again emphasizes the crucial role that patients, their families, and healthcare workers play in the safe use of medicinal products.
The main slogan of the anniversary campaign is: “By reporting suspected side effects, you and I have the power to make medicines safer for everyone. Speaking up could help protect someone else. It’s not only doctors, pharmacists, or regulators; everyone has a role to play.”
The campaign is supported by the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities (ICMRA), as well as a number of national and international organizations committed in the safe use of medicines.
